House Manual
- Entry: Please use the sidewalk deck leading to the door with the smart lock (code provided upon booking).
- Fireplace: Ensure the chimney damper is open before starting a fire — look up the chimney; if you can see the sky, the damper is open. Always open it for safety and proper ventilation, and make sure the fireplace is no longer hot before closing the damper to prevent smoke buildup.
- Water: The tap water is clean and safe for general use (washing, cooking, etc.), but we recommend drinking the filtered water from the cooler provided in the kitchen for the best taste.
- Heating & A/C: Controlled by a wall-mounted unit next to the bathroom door. The illuminated, round button turns the system on and off; use the up/down arrows to adjust the temperature and switch between modes: air conditioner, heat, fan, or dehumidifier — whichever you prefer. The second floor has its own independent air conditioner and an electric baseboard heater.
- Sofa bed: The sofa in the main living room on the first floor (in front of the TV) converts into a bed: remove the two back pillows, then grab the seating part and pull it out and a bit up.
- Dock: Maximum of four people or 800 lbs per section. Available during summer only.
- Fire pit & BBQ: The fire pit may be used as long as there isn't a full fire ban in effect by the municipality — check the current status on the Champlain fire permits page. The BBQ is always permitted.
- Basement: Not accessible to guests.
- Pets: Pets are not allowed.
Toilet & septic system
Our home uses a septic system — please flush only human waste and toilet paper. Do not flush:
- Baby wipes (even "flushable" ones)
- Paper towels or tissues
- Feminine products
- Fats, oils, or grease
- Food scraps or cat litter
- Hair, cigarette butts, or chemicals
